Americans down by the water or on it only a few centuries back. Thomas Birch, artist (1779-1851). The son of artist William Birch, he was English born but came to America in his youth and painted here.

Sailing an American sea with English born artist Thomas Birch (1779-1851). Coming to America as a teenager, he loved to paint portraits of ships and the water they sailed on.
