whining on air on the fur on a tarantula’s leg as she approaches her prey as somewhere in an old forgotten place lost past a western sea the old church inches back . . . a celebration but for who . . . ivy creeping over the altar and the organ being played by a seal . . . sea urchins where the stained glass was and starfish doing cartwheels in the balcony . . . no one to see but the boy who skipped school and is peeking in the broken window . . . the sea starting to creep up and his feet getting wet. . . . what it must be . . . underwater before and then the drought . . . the church going home to the sea . . . what else is doing with it . . . the house by the edge of the marsh . . . the convent at the edge of the town . . . the god of the sea knowing but he’s not telling . . .
