meandering on air as the sugar skull cookies on their cookie sheets in the back of the bakery take flight . . . round and round the guttering candles like moths to a flame . . . a door opening and someone coming . . . no matter . . . enough nips from the toothed grins on the jack o lantern cakes and he’ll be gone . . . hours left until sunrise and time for fun . . . enough time to live smooshed in someone’s cookie jar later . . .
