prancing on air as far into the eastern sky a mist descends and the trees come to life . . . a few creaks and the rest with a ghostly sigh . . . taller than the sky they look to be . . . not before but with a banyan tree’s worth of roots yanked out and stood upon . . . one maiden pulled inside with a final screech and then another . . . faster and faster and closer they come . . . where to go . . . high and into the sun perhaps . . . the spirits not wanting to burn . . .
