meandering in on the warm breath of a tropical parrot leaning over to pick up a treat as somewhere in the back of the old landfill under tons of garbage something rising up that was once there . . . a swimming pool and its pool house . . . one of those Spanish Revival mansions the movie stars built back when they didn’t have to talk . . . a gentleman coming out and diving in with ladies in shimmery beaded up frocks holding parasols posing for a clutch of photographers . . . bootlegger with cases of something and a man handing them over the wall . . . for that big party it must be . . . the one where someone got shot in the bedroom and the star who whose estate it was went out . . . ended up in an asylum somewhere with only half a mind but . . . a house left to envision itself up and an old movie or two archived someplace . . . something . . .
