sparking in air as somewhere in the back of the beyond the choir monks in the upper reaches of the abandoned monastery church begin to chant . . . stained glass windows gone to shards and the floor of the nave to grass . . . a peek in on tiptoes as the procession begins . . . incense in front being swayed in arcs and a cat and donkey in the back making the most dreadful howls . . .
