Timetravel back with watercolors of the earlier London hiding beneath the surface of this one. Thomas Hosmer Shepherd, watercolorist. Living from 1792 to 1864, he also did architetural drawings.

More aspirational decor, this time from Ackermann’s Repository which was published in Britain between 1809 and 1829. Because why not a country manse with a parlor that looks like a clone of the one at the Prince Regent’s Carlton House. All it takes is money.

Panorama of the painted ceiling in the nave of Peterborough Cathedral, England. Ceiling painted around 1230 and copied in full living color by the very talented John Sleigh in the 1840’s. Entitled “Strickland’s Lithographic Drawing of the Ancient Painted Ceiling in the Nave of Peterborough Cathedral”, it was published in 1849.

The last three being details of the first. There were only a very few copies made but fortunately one landed at in the special collections library at Princeton from which these three images come.

Girls in white dresses painted by English portrait painter Sir William Beechey (1753-1839). A look back into a quieter time. Didn’t even have railroads let alone space rockets.
