Pictures commissioned so the king could have a portrait of each of his houses. Surely you can’t be a king with just one. By Spanish artist José (Jusepe) Leonardo. Living from 1601 to 1652 he painted at the royal court in Madrid for Philip III and Philip IV.

Seventeenth century European ladies with ruffs. Having to be restarched for each wearing, they became a major status symbol. Social climbers but a princess in the bunch.
