Nearly forgotten but glorious art, envisionings and historical oddments from the back corners of the internet
Off for the summer and having fun at YMCA Camp Pawatinika in Anne Arundel County, Maryland in the United States. Late 1920s images from various archives.
On a voyage to see how much mileage I can get from the creative ability and eye for images that my family thought was useless. On line art curator, fiction writer and now blogger. Historian's daughter. Follow me . . .even I have no idea where I'm going next.

Wow, I love historic Camp photos. I can just imagine those Bee’s Knees 20’s Debs sitting around the campfire singing ‘The Rattlin’ Bog’ and telling ghost stories. Thanks for sharing.
My mother, 90 years old, attended Camp Pawatinika in the 1940s. She speaks positively of her experience at the camp especially being afraid but learning to dive head first off the pier. Currently she lives in a senior complex near the South River. I stumbled across your photos while googling the camp. My mother has dementia but remembered the camp and loved the images! Please, any more would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Susan
right around when my mother was a swimming counselor at a different camp. I’m shutting my laptop down and making my dinner but will look tomorrow and see if I can locate more. I’m glad your mother loves the pictures! Sarah.

Oh I just love them too! Hoping more of them turn up soon! Thank you for your comment, too. Sarah.

Thank you for your quick response, Sarah! Any more pics or info would be great. Appreciate your time and thoughtfulness.
we’re in luck. I’ve found at least one more. I’m going to add it to my blog post & then I’ll post you the link- that seems the best way Sarah.
Hi in the end I found several, from a pack of postcards that are up on ebay. They are a little earlier than when your mother went there but camps don’t change that much. Once ebay sells them they’ll pull the links down but the post has all the information. https://sarahbguestperry.blog/2023/11/22/off-for-the-summer-and-having-fun-at-ymca-camp-pawatinika-in-anne-arundel-county-maryland-in-the-united-states-late-1920s-images-from-various-archives/ I hope your mother loves these too. I’m sure she will. Sarah B Guest Perry
