Mountains off in the American West in what looks from now to be a dreamtime but wasn’t. These all being of scenes in Arizona. George Elbert Burr, artist. Living from 1859 to 1939, he was a printmaker and painter, briefly studying at the Chicago Academy of Design.

Plates from the book “Early western travels, 1748-1846,” which featured annotated reprints from earlier volumes mostly of the sort meant to encourage Americans to head west. Published in 1904, it was edited by Thwaites, Reuben Gold Thwaites and published in Cleveland, Ohio.
