Theatrical Set Designs and Other Fripperies. January 27th 2025 imagery for the winter show . . .

meandering on air on the fading blast of a train’s whistle as it heads around the bend through the forest . . . a children’s play about to begin up at the great camp near Canada . . . school all year and shoes every day but summer barefoot with a lake to canoe on . . . an entire troupe of actors all brought up by grandfather and his friends from New York just for the end of summer . . . a treat for sure . . .

my winter series post for today at the link. It includes this lovely AI art glammed up sardine handbag which is by @badbatch on Instagram.

Theatrical Set Designs and other Fripperies for January 26th in the MMXXV winter show . . .

scintillating on air on the yellow of a daffodil smiling at the sun while down in the park the children gather . . . two snowstorms and week after week with no school . . . the snow in front of the big rock jumped on and made flat for a stage with the back not too hard to climb for a big brother to jump off of and get the villain . . . one’s own play, not the ones downtown you have to get dressed up and sit in a seat to see . . . no, one to watch in snow pants and mittens with mugs of hot chocolate that someone’s auntie made and sleds to ride home on . . .

my winter series post for today over on my Substack at the link. It includes this sparkly diamond tiara

Theatrical Set Designs and other Fripperies. January 25th issue in the 2024-2025 winter show. . .

dancing in air as somewhere at the bottom of the sea the mermaids swish their tails in greeting as Poseidon marches in trident in hand and the entertainment begins. . . cheers from behind the coral reef and a lobster waving her claws. . . .yes!

my winter series post for today posted to my Substack at the link if you’d like to see it-

Theatrical Set Designs and other Fripperies for Friday January 24th 2025 in the winter show . . .

dancing on air on the tail of an armadillo as he wanders along as deep into ancient Babylon the musicians begin . . . the king’s new princess bride wanting to hear the music of her mountain home . . . a chance, it is . . . the court only liking their own music but this lady hating it and wanting everyone back next week . . . all new songs it is to be with another lyre and a man to play it . . . night after night staying up to write them but that all right . . . with any luck a lifetime of it and that better than being back home with only the priests to play for . . .

my winter series post for today at the link. It includes this artwork which is from Makerie Studio.

Theatrical Set Designs and other Fripperies. January 23rd issue for the 2024-2025 winter show . . .

meandering on air on the last glimpse of a flying fish vanishing back into the sea as in a frozen London just a little bit back the children rush around while their nurses get their bonnets ready . . . fun today and lessons tomorrow . . . frost fair it is out on the ice with bonfires and every treat in the world even the ones mother say you can’t eat . . . maybe, just maybe, Grandmama will buy them when Mother is off dancing with her lover . . . so boring it is . . . children only getting oatmeal and stewed apples for supper when the grown-ups get roast beef and Yorkshire pudding . . . all the gingerbread cakes in the world if only there is a chance to scarf them down

There were a number of frost fairs held on the frozen Thames. Dancing, bonfires on the ice, food vendors and it looks like a lot of fun in the engravings, too. Eventually the river didn’t freeze solid enough and that was the end of the frost fairs.

My winter series post for today at the link. It includes this fun holiday ornament that looks good enough to eat-

Theatrical Set Designs and Other Fripperies. January 18th issue in the MMXXV winter show . . .

meandering on air on the tip of the wing of a monarch butterfly reaching for the sun as somewhere in the way back time in a little town back there someplace the photographer waits while the woman from the school arranges everyone for a tableau vivant . . . a boy picking at a spot on his hand and a girl scratching a leg itch . . . .makes one want to tear all the hair on your head out . . . twenty first graders and no one able to stay still for longer than two minutes unless it involves a candy bribe . . . that’s it! Enough penny candy for the world at the shop down the street . . . maybe two worlds . . . get it done and then two photographs to shoot back in the studio . . . Yes! Enough money to buy presents and it not even being Christmas Eve. Success!
